What a scene to start the day; ice cream sales board, cobbles, path, wall, cup and ring marked boulder (from a quarry near Powburn, in the Northumberland National Park). A glimse inside my own mental map!!?
We all have moments and days when our mental maps get stocked with too many things to consider. Here are some words written in a letter by the Apostle Paul to a group of early Christians; ‘…the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus’.
The peace of God offered to each of us. Not something demanded or earned or given as a prize for attainment. Not a reward for saintliness or merit. Surely this is too much. But the words are clear; in the midst of the messiness of life, being human, there is so much to consider and weigh and reject and allow into our own mental and spiritual world.
I love this photograph because it perfectly relects my own inner world!!! So much travelling around my mental and spiritual space. But the words of the Apostle offer us the heart of reality which we often ignore. This is not a ‘one time offer’ from a supermarket, it’s an open offer for all our moments.
It speaks of peace which is unique, because of its origin. Not far off and inacessible. The chaotic bits of human existence are still there; that’s what makes us who we are. But God honours the chaos and offers to bring peace in our ‘ice cream and marks’ moments!!!
