A statement of the absolutely obvious, I hope you will agree! These particular rocks can be found on the south coast of the Isle of Arran, which rests in the Firth of Forth. I love the island, because it is full of contrasts.
We are living through a time of change and reasessment; personally and collectively. Sometimes it is hard to see beyond our own hopes and fears. I have had days when I have struggled to make sense of all that is unfolding. To be frank, I have moments of feeling lost.
These rocks have been around for 100’s of millions of years. Originally they were liquified molten rock, which eventually solidified into what is known now as columnar basalt. Change and movement and literally, twists and turns.
We would do well not just to reflect on this scene, but also to have that sense of purpose in everything; including each of our unique lives. As a geologist and a believer in a creative God; within, beyond and around us, I want simply to remind you that all is not what it seems!!
