I love black and white photographs; there’s something very evocative about the tone and shades. This simple setting of sea, sky, sand, intersecting tracks and a rather care worn tree, just speaks of life as it is today.

The uncertainty that each of us deals with, depending on our character type. The hope for new horizons.

Some words of Jesus, recorded in Matthew’s Gospel 6;27 Can any of you add a single hour to the length of your life by worrying? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Consider the lilies in the field and how they grow. They don’t work or spin yarn, 29 but I tell you that not even Solomon in all of his splendor was clothed like one of them. 30 Now if that is the way God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and thrown into an oven tomorrow, won’t he clothe you much better, you who have little faith?.’

Not harsh words of condemnation or rebuke. The ‘wrap around’ love of God, with us, at the crossroads, the straight path, or the lack of a path (!). I have always been suprised by God’s love in the seemimgly barren and testing times. The cry of my heart and yours, into the love of God, aways pointing, directing and beckoning onto the next path or step. ……..

‘Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand,
And marked off the heavens by the span,
And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure,
And weighed the mountains in a balance
And the hills in a pair of scales?’ Isaiah 40 verse 12

Profound words, which speak of the Creator and sutainer of all that exists…including you and I. The balance at the heart of creation and evolution. Not opposites but part of the whole of which you and I are part.

The flat stones, which in their precarious balancing speak of everything being held in perfect balance. Not regularity, but the grace of harmony which binds the universe even in the midst of all we are experiencing, which sometimes unsettles us.

May the gracious strength of the Lord of everything be with you now, and in your walk day by day,

Seeing and believing…..

Reflection and refraction….take a moment to let the photograph ‘speak’ to you.

Here are some words of Jesus to a very confused Philip; ‘Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Visible, not the hidden God we sometimes want to hang on to! There is a very deep call to all of us, from Jesus. He wants us to see differently. To be suprised, to be open to new possibilities.

How we ‘see’ is utterley unique and the invitation is held out to each one of us.

Take the step and be ready to be surprised !!!!!

The edge…..

I have no head for heights, but I am utterley in awe of of the climber sitting on the edge of the precipice.

Here are some words from Isaiah which kind of set the whole scene; ‘But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.. Isaiah 40;31

Moments and days can swing us between different poles and there are times when we can feel ‘on the edge’.

The photograph is about perspective and how we react to the place we find ourselves. I could never do what the climber is doing but the words of Isaiah make me think about the undergirding love of God for each of us, in all the challenges of life.

The edge is part of the beginning for each of us, in whatever situation we might find ourselves.

Hope, promise, longing, uncertainty…..many words inhabit my thoughts as I reflect on this scene. It mirrors what weaves in and out through my thought life, every day.

Take a moment to look for yourself; what does it mirror in your own heart and soul today? The rising of the sun always offers the hope of new possibilities, but our thought processes can be locked into a loop of the same old thinking.

On this day which will never exist again, take your opportunity, see beyond the immediate and offer your heart and soul to the God of all love, who waits for our call for help, in what ever way it is expressed!

Here today….

The vapour trail of an aircraft…a transitory moment.

Every moment is transitory; we cannot hold on to it. The fragility of human existence is a case in point. Not in any morbid sense, but an acknowledgement that existence is time bounded.

I believe profoundly that God’s love is so deep and so wide that it is inexsustible…limitless; it is humans who place boundaries as barriers to the love of God.

God’s love is not transitory; think on that statement today!

Thank you…

Candle, crucifix, stained glass window, dressed stone…..‘Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift…’ (2 Corinthians 9;15)….. the gift of his Son, Jesus, for all creation and humanity.

Too much to comprehend; words cannot describethe love of God reaching into our hearts. Visual images can be helpful, and I offer you the photograph above.

Thank you for taking a moment to read my offering, today. May you know the strength of thankfulness in your heart today.

Peace be with you,
